Dear Friends,
We are pleased to share with you the draft consolidated standard, governance model, assurance process and related reporting and claims policy for public consultation. You can access all these documents and the portal where you can submit your feedback here.
Our vision is to simplify the current mining standards landscape and promote continual improvement of environmental, social and governance practices along individual metals’ value chains – from mining to smelting, refining and beyond.
Embracing responsible practices means adopting a full life-cycle approach to metals and minerals production that promotes positive contributions to society, addresses its impacts on people and the environment, and supports progress to a circular economy.
Our aim is for this Standard to be adopted by a wide range of mining companies—large and small, across all commodities and locations—to drive performance improvement at scale. An important feature of the Standard is that it is applicable to any facility, anywhere in the world that is committed to responsible practices.
The public consultation is open for 60 days, closing on 16 December 2024. All documents are available in Arabic, English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish and we hope this enables as many of you as possible engage with this process and share your feedback.
We will also be convening explanatory webinars over the course of the consultation – offering an opportunity to hear an overview of the documents from the Partners and ask any clarifying questions. The first one will take place on 23 October at 08:00 BST and 16:00 BST to accommodate various time zones. We will also be attending a number of events in the coming months where we will be available to answer your questions directly. Keep an eye out for updates on events on the CMSI website: https://miningstandardinitiative.org/events/
At this important milestone, we want to thank our Industry and Stakeholder Advisory Groups for their expertise and invaluable contribution to the development of these draft components.
Best wishes,
Antonia on behalf of the Initiative Partners
