Update from Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative, November 2024

Dear Friends,

Thank you to those who have already submitted feedback through the public consultation. As a reminder, you can access the draft consolidated Standard, governance model, assurance process, reporting and claims policy, and submit your feedback through the portal here. The documents and feedback system are available in eight languages.

Since our last update, we convened our first explanatory webinar which provided an opportunity to run through the different documents and answer any clarifying questions. A recording of the webinar and a summary Q&A can be viewed here.

We will be convening a second explanatory webinar on 21 November at 8:00 GMT and 16:00 GMT to accommodate different time zones. You can register here.

Finally, like many of you, we’ve been at COP16 and want to thank all of those who came to our sessions and engaged with us on the Initiative. We will be at a number of events in next few months including COP29 in Azerbaijan, IGF’s AGM in Geneva, and Resourcing Tomorrow in London – we hope to see you there.

Public consultation is now open

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to share with you the draft consolidated standard, governance model, assurance process and related reporting and claims policy for public consultation. You can access all these documents and the portal where you can submit your feedback here.

Our vision is to simplify the current mining standards landscape and promote continual improvement of environmental, social and governance practices along individual metals’ value chains – from mining to smelting, refining and beyond.

In September, our Initiative Partners and members of the Stakeholder and Industry Advisory Groups gathered in Vienna to review the draft consolidated standard and multi-stakeholder oversight system—all in preparation for the first public consultation.

Thank you for your continued interest in the CMSI. As we reach the mid-point of the year I am pleased to share an update with you.

In September, the Initiative Partners and members of the Stakeholder and Industry Advisory Groups will be meeting again in person in Vienna to work through feedback on the draft consolidated standard, assurance process and multi-stakeholder governance model. This is in preparation for the first public consultation which will be announced later in the year.

Thank you for your interest in being kept informed of the progress of the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative. I am pleased to share this first update with you.

Earlier this month, the Partners and members of the Stakeholder Advisory Group and Industry Advisory Group came together in New York. It was a very productive couple of days of constructively challenging conversations focused on advancing the design of the assurance process for the standard, the principles for a multistakeholder governance model, and working through feedback on the ambition and requirements of the 24 performance areas within the draft consolidated standard.
