Dear friends,
3 February 2026 : It has been a busy start to the year for the CMSI Partners. We recently closed the call for applications for Directors, following the earlier call for an Independent Chair. We sincerely thank everyone who responded.
All applications are under review ahead of appointments later this year. In accordance with the CMSI Governance Model, appointees will form the evolved Copper Mark’s Board of Directors, which will independently manage and oversee the finalised Standard’s implementation.
We are also preparing a detailed report outlining key themes and insights from the feedback received during the CMSI’s final public consultation. The report will be published along with verbatim submissions (with consent) later this quarter.
This month, the CMSI Partners and members of our Stakeholder and Industry Advisory Groups will be in Cape Town for the Investing in African Mining Indaba. During the conference, we invite you connect with us and attend the following sessions.

This session digs into the CMSI’s potential as the Partners work to unify their existing standards into a single framework with an assurance process and claims policy shaped by two rounds of public consultation. The discussion will examine what it could mean for board-level risk, audit burden, market access and cost of capital, and how its governance model formalises balanced oversight from mine site to value chain. The panel will debate pragmatic adoption pathways in Africa and beyond – including how alignment on claims and site-level implementation can unlock permitting confidence, offtake optionality and investor trust.
Moderated by:
- Michèle Brülhart,
President and CEO, Mining Association of Canada
With speakers:
- Stewart Bailey,
Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer, AngloGold Ashanti - Bady Baldé,
